The island of Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean in terms of area.There is no doubt that is the best known island of the region both for its natural richness and for its unparallelled beauties. There are numerous assumptions regarding the origin of the name ''Cyprus''.The place reffered to as ''Alasia'' in the written Egyptian and Hittite works is actually ''Cyprus''. Another rumor is that this name was derived from the name of the daughter of the famous King of Cyprus , Kinyras. Another one is that the name might have been derived from the henna blossom. The most commonly accepted origin is Cuprum (Latin for copper) related with the abundant mines of the northwestern areas. Having a land area of 9251 square kilometers. Cyprus is situated to the east of the Mediterranean; It is 70 km away from Turkey , 110 km from Syria and 420 km from Egypt. Turkish Cypriots live in the northern and Greek Cypriots live in the southern part of the island of Cyprus. The rich history of the island can be traced back over 10,000 years. Like many Mediterranean islands, Cyprus has long been seen as an important strategic base with various civilisations having swept through over the years. Ancient Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Phoenicians, Venetians, Ottomans and British all left their mark, making the island a mosaic of different cultures and periods. One can find Roman theatres and villas, Byzantine churches and monasteries, Crusader castles and pre-historic habitats within short drives around the island.

Loved for its welcoming Mediterranean hospitality, North Cyprus combines intriguing antiquity and natural beauty with a sunny climate all year round, making it an ideal get away for every season.
Located at the crossroads of three continents, North Cyprus is the furthest East you can venture in the Mediterranean, with Turkey just 40 miles away. Yet, the island’s European influence means that although Turkish is the official language in the North, English is still widely spoken, everybody drives on the left, and British plug sockets remain the norm.

It is an exciting time to visit North Cyprus, as facilities are being developed to add variety to life, yet many of the sandy beaches remain untouched and undiscovered.
The coastline has ancient harbours, where you can dine al fresco and beaches that stretch for miles, while the depts of the crystal clear azure seas offer many of the region’s best dive sites. Indeed, visibility can be as much as 30 – 40 meters under water.

The resort town Kyrenia is on the Northern Coast , and another resort town Famagusta is on the East of Cyprus. Quite apart from the huge range of cultivated flowers, Northern Cyprus and specially Karpas Peninsula is a rich botanical area with literally hundreds of species of wild flowers from crown anemones and pink rock roses, to purple iris and yellow crowfoot.
A myriad of cafes, restaurants and bars await exploration inNorth Cyprus’ beautiful towns, whilst in villages, you will encounter an abundance of old-world charm and welcoming Mediterranean hospitality that will make you want to come back time and time again.

Climate:
North Cyprus enjoys a very pleasant climate, with warm, dry summers and mild winters, and an average of 300 days of sunshine.The climate in North Cyprus is typically Mediterranean.In August, the hottest month, mean temperature range from 21 ®C to 36 ®C and in the coldest months of January and February the average temperature is around 10®C, with a winter average of 6 hours daily sunshine and only moderate rain, making an ideal year round destination.

Locates at the crossroads of three continents, Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean, situated 40 miles south of Turkey. North Cyprus has a population of about 240,000 and an area of 3354 km, with 240 miles of coastline.
